“Hunger Games, Part Ate” (poem / poetry)

Welcome to your regular online food shop,

Good luck finding nearby delivery slots!

Go ahead, pick your shopping, put it in your basket,

Most items you need are… out of stock, granted.

If not, they could be by your delivery date…

We’re experiencing shortages, feel free to change,

Tech’ issues now mean you can’t check out, poor you!

Your slot’s expired, go to the back of the queue.

I know we’ve been asked to stay inside as much as possible, but online food shopping is literally a joke right now, the automated systems in place to facilitate it, are more unpredictable than deep sea exploration! One thing you can bank on though, getting messed about, and plenty of frustration.

In addition, you’re lucky if half of your shop actually turns up, and if you edit your order after placing it, due to things that you ordered days ago maybe, now being out of stock, you might lose your slot entirely, have to start from scratch, and be forced to wait even longer!

Safe to say, I’m far from happy! Their websites and servers need some serious updating and reinforcing. I really, really hope that things improve soon, not just for my sake, but for everyone else relying on this process too!

Anyway, enough of my venting! 😆🤣 I hope you guys are having a better time of things where you are!?!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

“Pathogen Paradox” (poem / poetry)

Inaction is sometimes a powerful thing,

Like rest encouraging speedier healing,

In Pandemic Central, how you help your kin,

Is distance, not going to see her or him.

Less panic buying, means less people struggle,

Caving to fear puts us all in big trouble,

Being mindful of others, pulls us all out the rubble,

Expediting the moment we’re cleared for a cuddle.

At the time of me writing this, the UK has almost 4 times as many people who have died from Covid-19, than have recovered from it, so our ingrained British defiance is clearly not working out for us, when it comes to combating its deadly effects.

Some of us Brits really have stuck two fingers up to the establishment, but in the process, have made our national pandemic situation worsen tenfold!

Did you know, that thanks to panic buying, a single person living alone, is allowed to buy the same amount of items as my family of 6 is limited to, typically 2 or 3 of any product type (when they’re available that is). Thus, large families like mine are forced to go out for food every few days, or we have to eat grass and leaves!

So I do feel like some things could definitely be structured better; I also think supermarkets have to source more locally grown produce, going forward; and we need to grow our own fruit and veg at home where we can, as soon as we can too.

Anyway, virtual hugs and good vibes to you all!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

“The Chase” (poem / poetry)

Corona’ is after me, who’d have imagined,

I’d be hiding from a microscopic assassin!

Size isn’t important, in this case at least,

It’s tracking me down, hellbent on a feast.

There’s nowhere to run, nowhere left to hide,

The outdoors concern me, but it might be inside,

The Doctor can’t save us, neither can Terminator,

Let’s exchange these germs for seeds and germinators.

The evening after my last post, the UK declared a full lockdown. The implications of this bear a heavy weight, not only for our lives, but our very definitions of society, and independence.

Apparently, in the last week, a whole swathe of dim-witted people went en-masse to places of beauty, in huge crowds, creating a further spike in new infection cases. Because of this, everyone is now paying the cost.

There can be no more gatherings of more than 2 people here (who do not share a household); we may only leave our property for work if it’s essential; for food or medicine shopping; or once a day to exercise; and anyone not following these rules, will have the Police to answer to.

Doctor Who, Bradley Walsh, and any other celebs can only entertain us, in these Orwellian times, not save us! If we felt trapped before, it’s got nothing on forced isolation! But, it’s for the greater good, protecting lives and our health services from meltdown, right?! That’s the verdict!

Remember, reckless behaviour gives rise to martial law! Be safe, be smart, and be considerate of others, I beg you!

Following Whispers.

“Bells” (poem / poetry)

Deep stress on the system, too much to fend off,

The alarm bells are ringing, and cannot be stopped,

This whole grid section has simply gone down,

There’s no power to smile, no power to frown.

The connections are severed, inflamed and enraged,

And no U.N. exists, to pull rank on this stage,

Until calm is restored, peace talks won’t begin,

So the first port of call’s finding patience within.

This piece details the beginning of my experience, with the condition I recently suffered with, known as Bell’s Palsy, which began some five weeks ago. I can thankfully say that I am now fully recovered, hence me beginning to share my poetry again.

Ironically, this piece shares a similar narrative to what it would have, if I’d chosen to write about this Coronavirus pandemic instead, granted with the exception of a line or two.

In my case, I had to fight the urge to be busy minded; the urge to force my recovery along with facial exercises (which actually could have rewired my nerves incorrectly); and the urge to ignore the recommendation of bed rest; I had to try my best to be patient.

I think I did pretty well, practicing mindfulness; resting plenty; using the wonderful Wim Hof breathing technique and cold showers daily; showing gratitude for all of my blessings, despite my pain and discomfort; and continuing to eat healthily.

All that’s left to say is, where there’s a will, there’s a way, my friends.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

“Cheat Codes” (poem / poetry)

How would you feel if the life that you’ve longed for,

Was instantly yours, without doing the work?

Would you smile that you now have the life you adore,

Or think (what now!), and see this deal as a curse?

“Cherish The Choice” (poem / poetry)

There are so many things I could do on this day,

Endless opportunities are leaning my way,

Which possibility do I now want to hone in on,

I could learn to do magic, or maybe speak Klingon.

“Fairwell” (poem / poetry)

Today, a great being will finally rest,

They’ve had a grand time, and made us feel blessed,

Many have gathered to pay their respects,

To say farewell to them, and wish them the best.
