“Submerged” (poem / poetry)

It’s the end, we’ve faced horrors like you’ve never seen,
The World that we knew, is a distant memory,
History’s been erased, nothing left to believe,
It’s just me, my crew, and this grand submarine.

We’re thousands of leagues under, sheltered from harm,
It’s increasingly difficult to keep my crew calm,
Our dwindling supplies are a cause for alarm,
We need to resurface, before things fall apart.

As promised, here is another of my exclusive (published, but never before shared online) poems, this time from my most recent book, “Poems That Move You”.

Believe it or not, I wrote this piece in the Summer of 2019, months before our World took a turn for the worst. However, it is ironic that the sentiment of my words back then, managed to encapsulate the mood of the masses right now, plus how everyone has to some extent felt isolated from others and the freedom they once knew.

There are many different contexts that this poem can be read in, households and social bubbles, sports teams and their lack of supporters at competitive events, etc, but one that speaks to me deeply, is the suffering and immense burden felt by small businesses… lots of SME’s have been dealt blows they may never recover from, many livelihoods lie on the brink of destruction.

So I ask that you show some love to these brave souls and visionaries, who have been ambassadors in serving our needs more uniquely and affectionately than big business ever could. We should mourn those that didn’t survive the onslaught, and support those that have made it this far, but are weak and need to resurface and replenish. HMS Entrepreneur, we salute you.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
