“Sedated Confliction” (poem / poetry)

Sugar-coated lies, are lies nonetheless,
My stomach erupts, as they will not digest,
“Take this placebo and feel better for it!
(It’ll be your downfall, but I’m sure you’ll ignore it).”

“Be a good little patient, and knock back your meds,
I’ve upped your prescriptions, due to side effects,
(We’ve got you now, sucker, hypnotised and addicted,
A fiend for life, obedient… yet conflicted).”

This piece has multiple meanings. Yes, it can apply to the actual prescription and consumption of medications, but moreso, to things like society’s evermore subservient, conflicted, yet obedient demeanor. We often wait with outstretched arms, waiting for a solution to be placed in our hands, and when one is fabricated, we rarely even question its efficacy or safety.

A whole swathe of society are addicted to everything the Doc’s (whoever they may be) dish out, some people finally realise that there is much amiss with this course of treatment, but often cant find the strength to say anything, because of their reliance on their next fix.

I for one, am not content to sit with a belly full of lies, fed to me by others. If it feels wrong, I’ll say so, if after looking into things further, I finding damning evidence, I will speak up, for all of us, not merely for myself and my own interests.

The powers that be, however, want nothing more than to trap us in a sedated, medicated, rigid, inescapable regime, where we bow to their every whim. They will lie, cheat and steal to get us there, but the question is, will we continue to pop their pills, and condemn ourselves… or turn to natural remedies? I have chosen the latter, and I do not regret my decision one bit.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
