“Versatile Vision” (poem / poetry)

Once upon a time, I was caught in a funk,
Wanting more from life, with my battleship sunk,
I lacked focus and drive to improve my situation,
My excuses ran deep, to the point of saturation.

Then, one day, I listed all my dreams and desires,
Began working towards them, rekindling the fire,
I’ve now surpassed these humble goals, setting myself new ones,
Challenging preconceptions is an undervalued nuance.

Many of us have a preconceived notion of how our life will play out, what we’ll achieve, plus what we need in order to do so. It’s okay to have an idea of your aims and how you think you’ll reach them, but life is rarely linear, and just because things look unfamiliar, doesn’t mean you should give up.

In truth, when things get difficult, this is the moment you should decide what’s important to you, and what sand bags you can release from your air balloon, so to speak, giving you the potential to eventually reach even higher heights. Often, the problem is not that we are incapable, but that we heap the pressure upon ourselves, and dwell on failure.

However, when we explore our options, there are usually routes we were unaware of, that lead to the very things we were aiming for, or something even better! We owe it to ourselves to not squander our own efforts, merely because we failed to plan, got impatient, or met obstacles.

What separates someone who sleeps on their own potential, from someone who exceeds their goals substantially? Our perception and outlook has a lot to do with it… for instance, a setback can be an immovable road block, or an opportunity to get creative. The choice, ultimately, is yours.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
