“Conveyance” (poem / poetry)

It’s a dangerous mission, I’m risking my life,
Switching up gears, in the hope that I’ll find,
The speed that I long for, to escape my problems,
Yet the further I flee, the less l seem to solve them.

That’s when it hits me, piercing right to my heart,
The issues are inside me, driving this car!
I can’t outrun them! I pull over, stop speeding,
Look under the hood, and find what I’ve been needing.

We are often told that the swiftest way to attain what we seek, is to go fast… full throttle all the way, yet in practice, this is rarely the case. Why does the term “living in the fast lane” exist? Because if we choose this strategy, our focus is fixed purely on velocity and pace, not quality and longevity, and before we know it, our time is up.

Patience and introspection however, are on the opposite side of this spectrum, where we make an effort not to rush to conclusions, or make rash decisions, instead we sit with an issue, analyse it, find out what drives it, and when we do, we are empowered with the ability to remove its power over us, and move on.

Reflecting on internal matters is way more important (and effective) than peddle to metal strategies. We owe it to ourselves to take our time, when researching and developing an understanding of what’s going on under our bonnet, and applying the proper care and maintenance to the areas that need it.

Mindfulness does wonders for our perception of things, but it also gives us the tools we need to be road worthy; to experience fewer breakdowns; and go the distance in anything we set our minds to.

May your vehicle avoid the scrap yard; and have responsive, desirable handling.

May your journey be fuel efficient; fruitful; and full of wonders.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
