“Caught Out” (poem / poetry)

I’m hidden so well, I’ve got this game sewn up,

My siblings can’t find me, neither can the grown ups,

Ninjas could learn some cool techniques from me,

The others were caught, see, they can’t evade properly.

I’ve set a new record, I’m the Hide And Seek Champion,

Forget what I said, I submit my retraction,

It’s seems my perceptions may need rearranging,

As they all gave up, and forgot I was playing!

Recently, I got to thinking about a memory from my childhood. When I was 13 years old, I went on a weekend trip as part of a bonding exercise with my fellow actors, all paid for by Channel 4, for whom the Drama we were filming, was due to be aired on.

It was a fun weekend, we played sports, went horse riding, etc… all of which I did with a broken arm, no less! We stayed in dorms on a big accommodation complex, and one of the memories that stands out most for me, is when around 30 of us played Hide And Seek in our rather large dorm.

One person counted, while everyone else hid. One by one, people were being found, the room I was in was searched, others were spotted, but I wasn’t, as I’d curled onto the tiniest ball under a bed, that you couldn’t even see me, even if you looked!

Around 3 hours later, I resurfaced, thinking I was the Ultimate Champion, only to realise that the game had been concluded more than an hour earlier, and they thought everyone had been found! This was my inspiration for this comical piece.

I hope it amused you, as much as it does me! Have you ever had a moment in your life, where you were caught out or mistaken, which you can look back on now and laugh at?

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
