“Tension Times Ten” (poem / poetry)

Eye contact’s discouraged, brief and infrequent,

I’m leaving… this room, ‘til you start acting decent,

I can hear you breathing, you’d better desist,

The sound or the action, whichever’s quickest.

Are you doing things, just to get on my nerves?

But we used to be Besties, if memory serves.

Those days seem a lifetime away from where we are,

Right now, I’m angered, by you being near.

I see the illogical mood swings of you,

The title is anyone’s, who will best who!?

You won’t get the better of me, that’s for sure,

Challenge accepted, I’ll settle the score!

The greatest throw down in the history of lockdown,

Gone are the days when a friend could just pop ‘round,

There’s no referee here, so anything goes,

When will this war end? …nobody knows.

Being confined under the same roof for months on end, with little to-no reprieve, is enough to drive most of us up the wall, and transform us into real-life enactments of the classic cartoon, Tom and Jerry, on an infinite loop!

The smallest things can rub you the wrong way… “Oh, I see that THAT plate has 7 baked beans more than mine!” “Well, maybe you shouldn’t have played the song I don’t like earlier, then!” “So, you DID give me less beans on purpose!?!” 🤯😆 …and that’s when you actually SPEAK to each other.

I sincerely feel that Sun Tzu is stirring in his grave, wanting to reanimate just long enough, to write and publish a bestselling sequel to his book “The Art Of War”, and call it “The Art Of Lockdown” …with several detailed chapters on close-quartered survival and strategy.

I’d read it, that’s for sure! 😉 For one thing, it’d help to pass the time, and it might stop me from plotting revenge for the hard-fought, Battle of the Beans! 😆🤣😂 How are you other caged beasts out there, managing in your zoo-like animal enclosures?

I’m curious!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
