“Regrettably” (poem / poetry)

Have you ever done something with good intentions,

But it turned out worse than before you’d begun?

You get a deep feeling of… why did I bother!?

The damage is done though, the past you can’t alter.

Whether physical damage, financial loss,

Or pets you looked after, dying on your watch,

You feel like a failure, such a disgrace,

But take comfort, your heart was in the right place.

Ahh, man, that feeling when you need to tell someone you respect or care about, that you are responsible for something that will disappoint or upset them, that is enough to keep you up at night, feeling immense guilt and anxiety.

I’m of the opinion though, that the truth, however raw, is a better option than a string of lies and a cover-up! Yes, the thought of how they might take it, and what they may think of you afterwards is daunting, but without genuine openness and trust, the bond you share is even more at risk!

I hate it when people choose not to tell me things, because they feel some need to protect me, or that they think I’m not resilient or compassionate enough to handle it, or forgive their secrets or mistakes… all that does, is show how little they actually know me.

I have more respect for people who deal in honesty, those who realise the precious value of truth, and the value of a person’s word. Of course, you should use tact in what you say, but be genuine, for their sake, and yours… otherwise, where does the deception and fallacy end!

Stay true people!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
