“Well Said?” (poem / poetry)

I said I’m a martyr, but they heard I’m immortal,

So plans to test this were formed, which is awful,

I meant that I’d die for my cause, in a heartbeat,

I’ve made peace with it, I’m not saying they can’t harm me.

One misheard word, can make a world of difference,

Loving sentiment could bring about undue resistance;

Hate; persecution; and likewise, fitting of Hell;

So please make sure you listen and communicate well.

Sometimes, we allow others to be messengers for us, to represent or communicate our will, thoughts and previous actions. I, however feel that it’s only a matter of time before this ‘Chinese Whisper’ approach, causes real and significant harm.

In other instances, we do not necessarily allow this, but people can take it upon themselves to act on our behalf without our explicit blessing, or they may decide things which directly and deeply impact us, without giving us any prior heads up, or opportunity to contribute or discuss it.

There are many other areas where this also takes place, areas like politics; the interpretation and recording of the events of our time, which will one day be seen as accurate accounts of our history (especially if they are the only record that exists); representative polls; etc.

We can often lose sight of just how important listening carefully, and seeking clarity (where needed) is, and conveying our thoughts and feelings properly too. Simply put, understanding should not be underestimated, my friends.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
