“NoRestForTheVivid” (poem / poetry)

Why aren’t you on standby, oh Mind of mine?

I’ve done everything needed, to shut you down fine!

Yet here you are, keeping us both wide awake,

Let me please get some downtime? …for goodness’ sake!

Thoughts; ideas; concepts; concerns; observations;

Slosh around in this head of mine, testing my patience,

Life’s not bad, I am grateful, my path is amazing,

I just hope these black bags, don’t turn into suitcases!

I’m laying here writing this at Stupid O’Clock in the morning, after having yet another consecutive (practically) sleepless night. Yes, to my dismay, my mind continues to race, keeping itself occupied with multiple things, no matter how hard I try to get it to do the opposite, and take a well earned break!

I am historically a very light sleeper, it has been the case from as early as I can remember, I usually pick up on the slightest unfamiliar noises, I can also accurately recall my entire family’s nighttime habits every morning… I guess that’s the curse of the protector, you seem to stay in a constant state of awareness and readiness.

I assume that’s why my mind has chosen to stay so active both day and night, and while it is a frustrating burden, it may also be the root cause of my seemingly never-ending creativity, so it may well be a blessing in disguise, albeit a tiring disguise! 😆 Given the ideas it affords me though, I can’t complain much!

The late, great Nelson Mandela used to get less than 4 hours sleep a night, but when you look back at what he was able to achieve because of that, it is truly remarkable! I guess it’s knowing when to try to sleep, and when to be productive, a balance I’m still trying to find… so, how little sleep, is enough? …who knows!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
