“Dark Wars” (poem / poetry)

I’ve not moved, and yet fought a huge battle inside,

The Empire Strikes Back, times four hundred and five,

Evil took no prisoners, genocide ensued,

By those wanting to extinguish, the light and the truth.

The Dark Side ensured many things were destroyed,

Turned to dust, and the fragments now lurk in the void,

But there is A New Hope, the war isn’t finished,

I must use The Force, lest the light be diminished.

As you have probably noticed, this piece has an epic cinematic feel to it, with many Star Wars references throughout. I have been a long-time fan of this record breaking Lucasfilm saga, and I’m excited that the 9th installment will soon be with us… a week before Christmas this year!

Anyway, back to my poem, which touches on extremely painful internal struggles, such as times when it seems that negativity and darkness, are trying to completely eradicate the light within us. As tough as these moments are, they are merely battles, the war is not concluded until we give up, something I do not recommend anyone doing.

People often ask why bad things happen to good people, and I feel it can be for a number of reasons, which include… to highlight our character and test our resolve; to give us something to fight for and motivate us; to help us to find our true strength or calling; things that George Lucas captured perfectly in these films.

While no one actively seeks to go through a dark experience, when one comes along, it makes us reevaluate everything, and although the initial outlook is usually bleak, us finding a way to come to terms with it or use it for fuel (positively), is how we generate the most personal growth. So, find your inner Jedi, my friends!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
