“Sensitive Subjective” (poem / poetry)

We have only five senses, or so we’re told,

But our perceptions are affected, by a predefined mould,

Toxic or rotten things, can be made to seem great,

Switching off the alarm bells, inside of our brain.

However, there are positives, that can be revealed,

The less we focus on hate, the more love we feel,

When we zone in on certain things, we ignore others,

So be mindful what your senses, exclude and uncover.

I choose to focus on the things that I want more of in my life, I choose to develop habits that reinforce this wish, I am stronger than any of my external influences, I am stronger than my environment, I choose to begin removing the power that negative things have over me.

I will see, feel and spread love wherever and whenever I can, I will salute the light in others, I will encourage a union of strangers, treating them like family, and one day they will be my family, and I will be theirs.

I will strive to be a person that I would want to befriend, someone who champions the admirable qualities I hold dear, making them thrive. My focus will be intentional, and my warmth and gratitude will flourish.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
