“Embodiment” (poem / poetry)

Love can be a cancer, love can be a cure,

Depending on whether or not said love is pure,

Also, if one-sided, it may fester inside,

With no outlet available, refusing to die.

Battling with the host, causing all kinds of mayhem,

Until a huge dose of reality’s taken,

Then the love can find a more worthy receiver,

Starting with its creator, and then a fellow believer.

When we have someone worthy of sharing it with, love is a beautiful thing. Most of the hurt that is inflicted by love, happens because the creator chooses to focus it on a someone who either doesn’t deserve such a precious gift; has other plans; or isn’t ready for something so deep and meaningful.

We should all strive to love, but it is wise to be mindful of who we give it to, first and foremost, that person should be ourselves; and should we choose to (in a relationship context), someone who we have a strong connection with, who is on the same page, not just saying what we want to hear.

Family and close friends receive a different kind of love, obviously, as do strangers, but in order for them to also realise their full potential, the love still requires a certain level of respect and mutuality from its recipients.

The bottom line is, love thrives best when invested in those with the capacity and desire to love you back wholeheartedly, affectionately, respectfully, and without agenda.

Many of us learn this lesson the hard way, but hopefully, we will one day see a World where love is the most valued, respected and widely supported global currency; where a warm heart never feels lonely; and we all feel abundantly loved and cherished.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for around two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
