“Fads Forward” (poem / poetry)

What will be the legacy of the trends we adopt?

Will they enhance humankind or finish us off?

With “The Floss”, will hip replacement surgery soar,

Or strengthen the muscles in our arms, legs and core?

Will “UGG Boots” cause a rise in ankle weakness,

Or keep us walking on clouds, exuding sweetness?

Wish I could peek at the future, to see their effects,

Witnessing ripples of the crazes, we choose to accept.

Another random thought that leapt out of my ever-racing, inquisitive mind, but one with a huge scope for ponderation. Think about how many fads and trends it could be applied to! …things that we adopted recently, several year ago or decades ago, that we are now paying for, or benefitting from, or might do down the line.

Like I for instance, am now paying for my unwise childhood decision to beatbox with my teeth (using them in a percussive manner), unknowingly removing some of my tooth enamel and giving me sensitive teeth and gums for life (unless I get platinum grills, that is), what a thought!

I also thankfully got the Exercise Bug at about the age of 13, which has stayed with me for life and accounts for my high metabolism; generally good health; and energy to embrace life with verve.

Can you think of any trends and effects that apply to yourself? Can you think of any potential future or general cause and effect links? I’d love to hear them!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
