“Polar Opposites” (poem / poetry)

Fire and Ice, flames and icebergs,

One hot, one cold, yet both of them burn,

Two extremes, both have their uses,

But only harm comes from elemental abuses.

When respect is not shown to each spectral end,

They’ll show you the might they embody, my friend,

Approach them with caution, handle with care,

Don’t risk it for a chocolate biscuit or a dare.

Things are rarely black and white, but if you wish to be treated with respect, then you must also treat others with respect, regardless of your perceptions of them, or your beliefs about how different they are to you.

My mind steers towards the impact of racism, sexism, and all manner of other discriminatory cultures and alienating habits, on those in receipt of them, and the knock on effect reflected back into the surrounding environment.

Well, in the same manner, both fire and ice have the power to either create life, or to extinguish it, what impacts these results, that are literally poles apart? …the respect they are shown, and the parameters within which they’re encouraged to interact with us and our surroundings.

Think about how this insight applies to every factor of your life, it could potentially save you unnecessary harm, and infuse your life with so many positive outcomes.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
