“Left Behind” (poem / poetry)

Many of us feel like we’re caught in a race,

Rigged from the start, so we’re far off the pace,

Frantically trying to control our direction,

Make our mark, find success, meet expectations.

But really, what matters, is your view of yourself;

Your treatment of others; a focus on health;

Precious moments, that money cant buy;

And the legacy left, when you make for the sky.

Please don’t listen to the official narrative, don’t bow to the stereotypes we are made to believe are the epitome of success, instead, make your own definition of what success means to you.

Don’t let them tell you that you’ve been left behind, rather, decide what you want your calling to be, and decide what you want to leave behind, as your legacy, in the hearts and minds of others, in the symbolic treasures you bless people with, treasures that will keep on giving, and increase their worth over time.

There are so many ways you can do this! One of my biggest wishes is that when our wills are ready to be divulged to our families and friends, they will have already been given the most wondrous and precious things by us, and will already know how to keep our memory and our spirit alive.

Keep shining, my beautiful friends!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
