We extracted multiple clues from the scene,
Potential evidence, carefully retrieved,
Nothing’s yet conclusive, we’ll investigate further,
Fateful accident, or premeditated murder?
We are gathering witnesses, building our case,
We can’t cut corners, but need to make haste,
When the riddle is solved, we’ll give a statement,
On this gruesome character assassination.

This piece goes out to all the authors of fiction out there, who have ever had to kill off a character in one of their books, in order to add to the suspense and gripping nature of a story they’re working on.
Only other writers will truly be able to comprehend the Author’s mixed emotions, having invested so much time and emotion in vividly building the character up, that the reader can literally picture them, only to have to sacrifice them for the good of the story’s progression and its reader engagement.
Rest In Peace to all of the characters who met their end before their time! Granted, some of them probably deserved it, but many won’t have.
So next time you walk past a book shelf, spare a moment for all of those unmarked paper graves, contained within fictional books. Let’s have a minute’s silence for their souls.
Love and Respect always,
