“Verdict” (poetry / poem)

Facing my demons, facing my fears,

Facing the one who has harmed me for years,

Demanding some answers, reenacting frustrations,

Suing for damages, grand reparations.

As I make my case in the Court of Opinion,

I wonder if I’ve overstepped my dominion,

Will a win here bring me the justice I seek?

As the Defence, Prosecution, Judge and Jury… are me.

It’s true, we can often be our own worst enemy, sabotaging our best laid plans, and treating ourselves like crap, which causes unnecessary harm and lingering fears and insecurities. It also doesn’t help that this is the norm, so we have few alternative examples of how to treat ourselves.

Yes, we won’t always do what is best, each of us make many mistakes throughout our lives, we can be very harsh critics of our own performance, or on the flip side, we might throw caution to the wind so much, that we lose who we really are.

As always, balance reigns supreme. We must find a way to hold ourselves accountable for our transgressions, while also giving ourselves room to make mistakes and thus attain the wealth of personal growth on offer, from the lessons they are able to teach us.

What compensation can you hope to receive from yourself? Other than using your newfound wisdom beneficially, or if you haven’t yet achieved this insight, then establishing the intention of finding it, by leaving yourself open to learning and growing, may well be enough. What’s your verdict?

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
