“No Longer Abel” (poetry / poem)

Two brothers fighting for attention and praise,

Trying to outdo each other in ways,

They hope will secure them the title of favourite,

Both missing the point, however you label it.

Jealousy took a hold, one murdered the other,

Rage cheated him out of his hopes and his brother,

Had they focused on love, not fighting and worse,

Abel would’ve lived, and Cain wouldn’t be cursed.

A bit of competition never hurt anyone, right? …wrong. Often what starts out as healthy competition, turns into jealousy, anger, hate and a number of other negative emotions. Sibling rivalries are a clear example of how things can turn sour, and then go from sour to rotten in no time at all!

This piece takes a fresh look at one such sibling rivalry, that is pretty well known, which ends in the ultimate unwanted outcome. It’s a great reminder of what’s truly important, plus it opens our eyes to how easily we can completely sabotage our own efforts, simply by being negative towards others.

Nothing good ever came from bad intentions. So spare a thought for how you view others and also how you treat them, as it may make the difference between you facing a similar fate, or not. Show yourself more love, by loving one another, and love one another better, by starting with yourself and your kin.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for around two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
