“Precipice” (poetry / poem)

Standing on the edge of a dangerous cliff,

I try to determine how best to resist,

The urge to leap off now, ending it all,

As more pain results from such a great fall.

Not just for me, but my loved ones especially,

If I let this defeat me, who will respect me?

I see this grand vista, take a deep breath and start,

To find ways to bring this view home in my heart.

We all face tough moments at points in our lives, experiences that make us want to throw in the towel, whether this represents life itself, or our acceptance and subscription to a troubling relationship or situation, it’s a decision that you often can’t take back or come back from.

In these troubling times, we are usually not the only one who will be affected by such decisions, yet these impacts are furthest from our minds at the time. Even if this is the eventual chosen course of action, it is advisable to properly consider the entire potential pain that would be created, before choosing to jump (so to speak).

Rash, swift, emotional decisions rarely work out the way we had imagined they would, it is better to first regain your composure, look at the challenge from all angles, seek advice if possible, and see if there is a positive outcome or outlook you can take away from all of this.

Sometimes all that’s needed is a new way of viewing things, maybe drawing from the blessings, or having a more positive environment for discussions and exchanges between those concerned, learn from the lessons and make them count, either in the current situation, or whatever may come next, should that be your choice.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for around two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
