We live in an odd, topsy turvy age,
The digital revolution takes centre stage,
Horizontally, some people work from their homes,
Then sleep standing up, as their tiredness shows.
When work and play are in your own residence,
Bad habits can form, or self negligence,
Set boundaries, so the two don’t overlap,
First plug those holes, then recline in the bath.

Many of us who have the privilege of working at home, have at some point got a little too comfortable with our environment, especially those of us who are self employed. Getting into lazy routines, like rocking your pyjamas as much as is humanly possible, or sleeping for more than we probably should!
Motivation can become quite a challenge if you let too much slip by the wayside. It is important to set parameters for yourself, to keep yourself in check, as it’s not much fun playing catch up on a huge workload.
Remember, our decisions, actions and inaction all have consequences, we have to be clear in our mind about what we expect from ourself, and also fight for our leisure time. When we don’t take control of our work obligations, they can often end up controlling our lives, and regularly ruin best laid plans.
This is never more true than when your workload is appointment based. There should be acceptable times for appointments, as well as times that all work must be completed by. This allows you to have time for fun, entertainment, relaxing, socialising, and winding down before bed.
It’s wiser to proactively maintain a balance that works for you, than face the stressful alternative.
