“Better Balance” (poetry / poem)

Most of us grew up in modest conditions,

We work very hard for the things we have,

Money guides lifestyle and leisure decisions,

Health and happiness nowadays, often rank last.

It’s smart to sit down and prioritise these,

Trivial things may be causing you undue stress?

Online courses can help even more than Degrees,

To secure jobs that pay well, so you can work less.

Many of us were not born with a silver spoon in our mouths, we began life with few resources, and quickly had to find a way to acquire more, in order to secure our’s and our family’s survival. Often this meant taking an entry level position, paying minimum wage, thus work dominated our lives.

Just because we find ourselves in a routine of working practically every waking hour, trying to make ends meet, does not mean we should do this for the rest of our lives. We should think about what our ideal job role would be, come up with several rewarding options, then work towards achieving them.

The aim is to develop the necessary skills to be able to work in our dream job, one which barely feels like work, because we enjoy it so much, and that also pays us more than we are used to. This extra money shouldn’t be wasted on expensive things though, but saved, so that we have a security blanket, easing our financial burdens.

This reduction in stress and increase in free time is worth so much more than any trivial luxuries, plus it may also create an opportunity for you to own your own home, or work for yourself some day! Don’t wait around for miracles to happen, create the magic you yearn for, and a work-life balance that soothes your soul.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for over two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
