“Indifferent” (poetry / poem)

Some walk the path of least resistance,

No opinions preside, simply indifference,

Horrific things happen, they just shy away,

During wondrous moments, they’ve little to say.

There are times for quiet, reasons for restraint,

But with no interaction, what do you gain?

It makes me suspicious to witness no candour,

What is your purpose? What do you stand for?

I’d first of all like to make it clear that this piece is not referring to introverted people; those who have the good sense to mind their own business, and respect the privacy of others; or people merely avoiding an all too obvious trap, set in place to unfairly twist their words and defame their character.

However, I do feel that there are a growing number of people who remain passive in most aspects of life, showing no emotion, no empathy, no joy, no views that would illustrate independent thought or give distinct clues about their personality.

Yes, I acknowledge that there are people out there who are over opinionated, forcing their interpretation of everything down everyone else’s throats, but I also feel that without discussion, engagement in and celebration of each other’s highs, showing interest and support in their low moments, how are we to ever truly understand and respect one another!?

I sense that the key to a better future for humanity, and to its collective, emotional growth, lies in the meeting of minds and hearts, in a curious, yet embracing and accepting way. Not in ignorance, avoidance or indifference. Get to know your neighbour and therein you shall find yourself.

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for around two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
