“Bingo” (poetry / poem)

“Okay, let’s begin!”, I pull out my dabber,

To acknowledge the traits of mine I feel matter,

“Honesty”, yes, I have that in spades;

“A Positive Mindset”; “Patience” …for days!

“A Hunger To Learn”; “Values All Life”;

“Yes, that’s amazing, I have my first line!”

“Now we are playing for a Full House”,

“Empathy”; “Courage”; lots more are called out.

“Inner Beauty”; “Kindness”; “Humility”;

“Love”; “Open Minded”; “Creativity”;

“Appreciation”; “I need one more and I’m done!”

“Spreads Joy”; “BINGO!! I’ve done it! I’ve won!”

For this piece, I envisioned myself sitting down for a game of Bingo, with my dabber in hand, marking off my characteristics on a ticket as they are called out by the Bingo Caller. Basically, this is a perception exercise in self love, where you recognise the great qualities you believe you embody or want to embody! You should try it!

So often we are made to focus on what’s negative about us… our apparent failings, our flaws, and shortcomings, well, I wanted to encourage all of you to turn the table on this useless, self depleting endeavour, by transforming it into something effective in improving your self image and confidence.

Visualise the fantastic qualities you have within you, they are all written on your bingo ticket, now mark them off, to acknowledge their presence, there may be a couple of qualities that you feel you haven’t attained yet, or you wish to improve on, it doesn’t matter, mark them off too… picture yourself getting a Full House.

Now that you know the characteristics that you want to be aligned with, think of the things you’d need to do or work on, in order to achieve them or reinforce them, you know, the little tweaks, the thoughts, the simple gestures, etc, now make an effort to do them day by day, and bingo, you have become a winning ticket, my friend!

Love and Respect always,

Following Whispers.

Author: Following Whispers

Hello, I'm Following Whispers, an English poet and author who has been writing for around two decades. I'm a self-professed geek who can get deep sometimes, but I personally don't take myself too seriously, I just love to have fun, plus inspire myself and others. In my early twenties, I realised that beauty can be born out of not only love, but also pain and other motivations. The more I used writing poetry to make sense of my busy mind, the more it helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. I began publishing my writing in 2018 and currently have three books available Worldwide, including my most recent release "Poems That Move You". I have bared my soul in each and every one of my poems, and I'm confident that you'll get just as much from reading them and relating them, as I did from writing them. Please feel free to look around my site and read the free poems I've shared there, after which, why not pick up a book of mine, drop by Instagram, connect with me and say hello!
