There are so many moments, that I can recall,
That bring immense joy, to my heart and my spirit,
Warm fuzzy feels, when the image installs,
Precious gems fill me, as memories visit.
I have snapshots of amazing, priceless adventures,
My album’s filling quickly, but there’s more to see,
When I’m in a nursing home, rocking my dentures,
I’ll revel at my wonderful Polaroid tree.
Life is for the living, and when you hear this phrase, it seems so obvious, but many of us are locked into a monotonous routine of our own making, that doesn’t give much room for joy. I too was once engaged in this restrictive repetition, and became quite reclusive, lost and lonely.
So what changed? Only me really, as things rarely happen without your blessing or influence, short of having a super spontaneous friend who insists on you do something different. We are both the Schedulers and the Captains of our own lives, so don’t spend all of your time in the Airport waiting area!
I have a wealth of fantastic memories, which I continue to add to every day. Look inside yourself, and see how your Polaroid tree is coming along, if it seems to exhibit many bare branches, then I think it’s time you began to nurture its growth!
It is never too late to begin populating it, but the sooner you start, they more happiness it will bring you now, and later on. The tree need not be filled with extravagant memories though, find the joy within the simplest of moments or gestures, find the time to appreciate the beauty all around you, for that is a gift which keeps on giving. 😉
