Two beady eyes, gazing profusely,
The World passes by, while I’m being reclusive,
Passing up opportunities, a slave to the bells,
The alarms keep on sounding, so I stay in my shell.
My heart wants to soar, but it’s not happening,
Confined in a shell, you can’t flap your wings,
I need to break free, but I’d then be exposed,
If I don’t go, it’ll hamper my life and my growth.
Picture an egg with two holes poked through the shell, to allow the inhabitant’s eyes to peer out, allowing them to see much of what goes on around them, but experience and feel very little, this is the way some people approach both their life and matters of the heart!
I get why we choose these conditions, as I was a recluse at one point in my life, I became increasingly closed off for years. I thought I was protecting myself, doing myself a favour, but it had quite the opposite effect on me. Friends of mine, have also suffered from agoraphobia and anxiety for several years, to the detriment of their health.
Thankfully, I was eventually able to come out of my shell, but I still find the reclusive tendencies trying to take a hold, every once in a while. I’ve also suffered a handful of panic attacks, (although not for years, thanks to my refreshed outlook on life).
Experiences like these are no laughing matter, but when we give in, when we throw in the towel and give up hope, we condemn ourselves to ever-intensifying feelings of fear; loneliness; frustration; stress; and emptiness; but I want you to know, you can have better, and you deserve better… so break that shell, spread your wings, and soar!
